The Machine Learning Department of NEC Labs America invites
applications for summer 2012 internships. We have one summer
project which specializes in the areas of cancer genomics and
functional genomics. The internship will involve research and
development of novel machine learning algorithms with applications
in bioinformatics. Our internships will normally result in quality
publications. Minimum duration of the internships are usually 3 months
and the exact dates are flexible.

Job Requirements
* Currently enrolled in PhD/MSc program in computer science,
statistics, bioinformatics/computational biology, electrical
engineering, or equivalent.
* Research experience in bioinformatics, preferably (but not
necessarily) in machine learning with large scale data analysis.
* Strong computational background.
* Strong programming and scripting skills.
* Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Please contact Martin Renqiang Min (renqiang at nec-labs.com) or
Yanjun Qi (yanjun at nec-labs.com) if you are interested in this
position.

About our lab and our department ==>

NEC Laboratories America, Inc., (www.nec-labs.com) is a vibrant
industrial research center, renowned for technical excellence and
high-impact innovations. Our research programs cover a wide range of
technology areas and maintain a balance between fundamental and applied
research, providing a technological edge to NEC’s global business. We
also maintain close collaborations with leading research universities
and have a commitment to let our researchers grow and develop their
talents. Our goal is to maintain a competitive environment to ensure
that we attract the sharpest minds in their respective fields. NEC Labs
is headquartered in Princeton, NJ and has a second location in
Cupertino, CA, the heart of Silicon Valley.

The Machine Learning group (located at Princeton, NJ) conducts research
on various aspects of machine intelligence, from the exploration of new
algorithms to applications in data mining and semantic comprehension.
Our researchers have extensive expertise in theoretical and application
aspects of machine learning, as well as in the development of parallel
algorithms for large-scale data analysis. Ongoing projects focus on
text
and video analysis, digital pathology, and bioinformatics, among
others.
Publishing is an integral part of our activities as a means for
calibrating the quality of the research and to ensure staying at the
forefront of technology. Application projects emphasize technologies
that solve real world problems, and many of our research results have
been and will be transferred into industry products.
