Dear Dr. Buhler,
I am writing to ask if you know of a highly motivated student with a
strong computational background who might be interested in a joint
postdoctoral position between my lab and Microsoft Research.
My group and researchers at Microsoft have independently developed
similar approaches to integrating diverse types of "omic" data using
network models. We are looking for an extremely talented computational
biologist to work with us on improved methods.
The relevant publications are below:
Yeger-Lotem, et al. Nature Genetics (2009)
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19234470
Huang and Fraenkel, Science Signaling (2009)
http://stke.sciencemag.org/cgi/content/full/sigtrans;2/81/ra40?ijkey=sfqfB52Ckvy9Y&keytype=ref&siteid=sigtrans
Bailly-Bechet et al. PNAS (2011)
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21187432
The postdoctoral fellow will benefit from the *extremely* generous
compensation paid to Microsoft researchers, while being fully integrated
into my lab at MIT.
Below is the text of an ad that we have posted.
If you know of a student who might might be appropriate, please
encourage her/him to apply.
Thanks,
Ernest

Postdoctoral position at Microsoft Research New England in Cambridge,
MA, to work on a joint project with the Massachusetts Institute of
Technology and the University of Torino, Italy.
This position represents an exceptional opportunity to develop new
algorithms for analysing biological data and to apply these algorithms
to develop new therapeutic insights. Deep expertise in computational
biology, an excellent publication record and a PhD in a relevant field
are required. The position is for a one year with the expectation that
it may be extended. It is based in Cambridge, MA, at Microsoft Research
New England. The applicant will work with a highly collaborative team
consisting of research groups in the laboratory of Ernest Fraenkel at
the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, which is located two blocks
from Microsoft, and the laboratory of Riccardo Zecchina at the
University of Torino, Italy.
Research will focus on methods for integrating diverse data such as
genomic, proteomic, genetic, epigenetic, molecular profiling and patient
data from clinical studies and laboratory models of diseases. The
applicant will be expected to work closely with experimentalists in an
iterative cycle of model building and hypothesis testing. This unique
position affords all the intellectual freedom of academic research with
compensation and benefits of a high-tech position in industry.
To be considered for employment for any post-doctorate opportunity at
the New England lab, we require your completion of an online application
and the submission of the following: CV, Publications list, Research
statement, and at least three letters of recommendation.
To apply for a post-doc position at Microsoft Research New England:
