From cloud_announce at list.wustl.edu Tue Nov 12 15:21:38 2013 From: cloud_announce at list.wustl.edu (Engineering Cloud Cluster Announcement List) Date: Tue, 12 Nov 2013 21:21:38 +0000 Subject: [Cloud_Announce] New Cloud Feature: eQUEUE: Interactive Applications Message-ID: We'd like to announce a new feature being added to the Cloud Cluster: eQUEUE. eQUEUE is a web-based job submission and management system that allows you to submit jobs and manage files without SSH. This software is currently in BETA, and is not feature-complete. This first part of eQUEUE we'd like to show is the ability to run interactive applications without needing to SSH and create X11 tunnels, a procedure that is complex and inefficient. With eQUEUE, you will be able to log into the website, and start a Java VNC application that will tunnel through to a cluster node and bring back to you a window containing your desktop or application with no extra setup needed. VNC is lighter on bandwidth then true X-forwarding, and the VNC client allows you to adjust the quality of the graphics on-the-fly to maximize your performance over a slow link. If you currently use 'qlogin' or any application requiring a GUI (Matlab, Comsol, Fluent, etc) please try this out and let us know how it works for you. Currently a default Full Desktop session, a Matlab-only session, and a Comsol session are defined. From the Full Desktop session you can start any additional programs, just as if you'd logged in at a local keyboard. The Matlab and Comsol sessions start that application only - and once you close the application, the instance closes as well. Notes on usage can be found here: http://clusters.engineering.wustl.edu/index.php/EQueue If you want to jump right in, eQUEUE is here: https://clusters.engineering.wustl.edu/equeue This website currently uses a self-signed SSL certificate. Log in with your SEAS credentials. Thanks! Please send me any questions or feedback. Mark Bober bober at wustl.edu
